Recipes I don’t like cooking -recipes with several steps. Like this Salisbury steak. For some reason I thought that it’s a hard one because there’s making the patties, there’s cooking in oven, etc. and I’ve been chucking it aside every time I’m looking for something to cook. And of course, it’s very foreign sounding. Where is Salisbury exactly?

Turns out, my fears are totally unfounded. It’s really easy. And you don’t need to bake it. Just make the patties and cook in gravy. In fact, I think I may have done it before without even realizing it. This Salisbury Steak Recipe with Mushroom Sauce is also kid friendly so have no fear!

(Ps, according to Wikipedia, the creator of the recipe is a Dr Salisbury and it originated in America, not as I previously assumed, the place somewhere in Europe.)

  • 3/4 kilo ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4  cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (or use the mushroom soup packet, like I did, prepared ahead with mushroom)
  • 1/3 cup water

  • Combine the beef, egg, ketchup, breadcrumbs, green onions, and parsley in a bowl. Season with some salt and pepper. Add 1/4 cup of the soup.
  • Mix well then form into patties.
  • Fry the patties in a skillet with the butter and oil over medium-high heat on both sides until no longer pink in the middle. Remove from the skillet and pour off any excess grease.
  • Add water to the remaining soup. Pour over patties then cook for another 10 minutes.
