Miss Night and Day was fun, funny, and lots of kilig moments.

The kdrama “Miss Night and Day,” has recently concluded on Netflix and was a bit sad to see it go. I already wrote about it in another article here: Kdrama Review -Miss Night and Day: A Hilarious K-Drama Romp Through Time and Age, and I love the switch between Jung Eun-ji and Lee Jung-eun. Very whimsical and it captivates audiences with its blend of romance, comedy, and mystery. If you don’t know it yet, the series follows Lee Mi-jin, portrayed by Jung Eun-ji, a struggling job seeker who transforms into her middle-aged alter ego, Lim Sun (played by Lee Jung-eun), with the rise of the sun. This weird but intriguing duality mirrors the classic tale of Jekyll and Hyde, except Mi-jin and Sun share the same essence despite their contrasting appearances.

I loved that it’s a blend of romantic comedy/office romance/mystery that ties in the lead characters (Mi-Jin and Mr Gye). Watch it to know how the story unfolds and the connection between Mi-jin’s aunt, Lim Sun who mysteriously disappeared years ago as well as Mr Gye who is the romantic interest.

While the series effectively showcases the budding romance between Mi-jin and Ji-ung, I felt like the murder mystery was overshadowed by the comedic elements. I meant was funny but the ending felt a bit rushed because they took so long establishing the plot. I mean, what took Mr Gye so long to even realize who Lim Sun is?! The investigation, which includes a cast of suspicious characters, ultimately leads to a somewhat predictable villain, Na Ok-hui. Nobody was even surprised that it was her but her motivations lack depth, relying on clichéd tropes that detract from the overall narrative.

Despite these shortcomings, I love how the chemistry between Mi-jin and Ji-ung develops gradually, even as they navigate the complexities of their dual lives. The series excels when it explores relatable scenarios, with the joy and awkwardness of love amidst the chaos of its darker themes. While the grimmer elements may not resonate as strongly, they serve as a backdrop to the heartwarming and humorous moments that define the show.

Now let’s talk about the side characters – they are so annoyingly cute! Baek Seo-Hoo who plays Ko Won -the star that Lim Sun previously saved and the one who realized immediately who Lim Sun/Mi Jin is, is such a baby. He looked so young but he was able to make the kilig moments work with both Lim Sun and Mi Jin! Amazing since Lim Sun is really old lol. Ga-yeoung (Mi-Jin’s cousin and the investigator also really pulled off their roles as the amazing side kicks! Even Mi Jin’s mom and dad are nice. I’m rooting for all the side characters you all! 😘😘

To watch or not to watch?

As I said in my last review, it’s not mind-blowing but an enjoyable watch nonetheless. Overall, “Miss Night and Day” is a delightful addition to the K-drama landscape in Netflix, offering viewers a unique blend of Kdrama fantasy, romance, and mystery that keeps you engaged until the final episode.
